The CFB Planner bot for Discord

In Discord it's called CFB Game Notifier.

Game day in your friend group's server: who's watching which game, where it's on, the score as it happens, watch parties as Discord events, reminders before kickoff, and picks and predictions from a slash command.

What it does

Set it up

  1. Connect a channel

Press Add the bot to your server and sign in to CFB Planner — Continue with Discord links your Discord at the same time. Discord then opens its own window: pick your server and press Authorize, which adds the bot. Back on CFB Planner, in Feeds, pick the channel for game-day posts — the list shows which channels the bot can post in, and what to allow for the rest. The first board posts within a couple of minutes.

You need Manage Server in that server to add the bot. It asks only for:

    • View Channels to see the channel it posts in and the voice channels a party can use
    • Send Messages to post game-day boards, reminders and live alerts in the channel you pick
    • Embed Links to show each game's crest beside its post
    • Connect to hold a watch party's event in a voice channel
    • Manage Events to put watch parties and big games in the server's events
  2. Already have the bot? Use /cfb setup

In the channel you want game days in, type /cfb setup. The bot connects that channel to your CFB Planner account — link your Discord first if you haven't. You need Manage Channels; if the bot can't post there yet, it says exactly what to allow.

  3. Get your crew in

Everyone makes their own account and links their Discord. Anyone in the server who marks a game shows up on the board when they press In, on the site or from the board's own buttons, and friends on CFB Planner do too. Each person can switch any server off under Your servers.

  4. Use it

Commands answer in the channel and ping nobody. A button pressed on one of them — I'm in, a pick, Join — is answered only to the person who pressed it. Stuck? /cfb help explains everything, just to you.

Watch parties

Host one from any game's card on CFB Planner, pick a voice channel if you want one (from servers you and the bot are both in), and invite friends. The party becomes an event in that server, starts at kickoff and ends after the game. Pressing Interested on the event means you're going, and taking it back undoes that.

Questions

The commands don't show up
They can take a minute to appear after the bot is added. Restart Discord if they still don't. The bot added by any button on this page includes the commands.
The bot can't post in my channel
The channel's own permissions are stopping it. In Discord, open the channel's settings → Permissions, add CFB Game Notifier, and allow View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links. Feeds shows the same reason, and posting picks up again by itself once it's fixed.
No events appear
The bot needs Manage Events. A game gets its own event once two or more people are in on it, up to a week ahead; a watch party always gets one.
Someone's name shows but they weren't pinged
They haven't linked their Discord on CFB Planner yet. Their name still shows; linking it is what turns it into a mention.
My picks on CFB Planner don't show in the server
Link your Discord on CFB Planner and keep Show my pick'em picks on (Friends settings). Within the hour you're put on the pick'em board of each server you're in that has the bot, and your site picks count in /cfb leaderboard and the "who called it" posts. Picking once with /cfb pick there, or Join this server's board in /cfb picks, does it at once. If you left a board, you stay off it until you join again.
What are live game cards?
When a game people in a channel marked kicks off (or one with an event in that server), the bot posts one card for it and keeps editing it until the final: the score by quarter, who has the ball, the last play and both teams' stats so far, then the official box score. Up to six at once, never during quiet hours, and they ping nobody. /cfb live puts any game's card in a channel. The channel's owner can switch them off in Feeds.
What decides the Saturday Preview's five?
A must-watch score that adds up how close the model thinks the game is, ranked teams (more if a top-10 team plays), the model picking an upset, and how many people in your server marked it. The weights are set by hand rather than fitted, since there is no record of which games people were glad they watched. The slate on CFB Planner shows the same five, without your server's marks. The channel's owner can switch the post off in Feeds.
How do locks and head-to-head work?
Each week one of your picks can be your lock: right, it's worth two points instead of one. Make it after you pick (the 🔒 Make it my lock button in Discord, or under your pick on the site); you can move it until your locked game kicks off. Every week you're also paired with the person next to you in the standings (first plays second, third plays fourth; an odd one out plays the week's middle score), and the higher week score wins. /cfb leaderboard shows points, records, head-to-head and hot streaks. Monday from 10 AM (the channel owner's time) the channel gets last week's recap as a picture: the week's winner, the best and worst calls by the model's pregame odds, the hot streak, how the locks did and the head-to-head results.
How does the bracket challenge work?
Build your bracket on CFB Planner's playoff page and it is scored against the real playoff: a point for each team you have in the real twelve and one more if you also had its seed, for a field last changed before Selection Day (Sunday, December 6), then 1, 2, 4 and 8 for each winner you called in the first round, quarterfinals, semifinals and title game. 52 at most. Until Selection Day it is scored against the field as it stands, so the standings move with each week's rankings. Brackets lock at the first playoff kickoff. /cfb bracket shows this server's standings and yours, just to you; only public brackets are listed, but yours counts either way. The Wednesday after each committee release, channels with pick'em posts on get the server's standings.
What is Wrapped?
Your season in one picture: games you were in on, watch parties, your pick'em record and best call, your bracket, the biggest comeback you were in on, and your team's season. /cfb wrapped shows yours to you alone, and Post my Wrapped here puts the picture in the channel only if you press it. Your season on CFB Planner has it too, with a button to save the picture. It's your season so far until the national title game, then your Wrapped.
What is the Red Zone?
When a game comes down to the wire (the fourth quarter, 8:00 or less left, one score in it), the bot tells the channel and names the TV channel to switch to. It covers ranked games and any game people there marked, picked or have an event for. Two or three finishing at once share one post, the closest first. At most one Red Zone post every ten minutes, never during quiet hours, and it pings nobody. Overtime and upsets have their own alerts. The channel's owner can switch it off in Feeds. The slate on CFB Planner shows the same games at the top while they're on.
How is the live win chance worked out?
It starts from CFB Planner's pregame prediction and moves with the score and the clock: a lead counts for more the less time is left, and a better team's edge fades as its time runs out. It was fitted to eleven seasons of quarter-by-quarter scores and tested on four it never saw (2022 to 2025), where it called the winner 76% of the time after the first quarter, 80% at halftime and 85% after the third. It does not yet know who has the ball. When it jumps 25 points or more on one play from the second quarter on, the channel gets a Big swing alert with the play that did it.
Can I choose who's on my server's pick'em board?
Yes, if you can manage the server. /cfb board add puts somebody on it, /cfb board remove takes them off, and /cfb board list shows who's on it, with only you seeing the answer. They need their Discord linked on CFB Planner; if they haven't, the bot gives you the link to send them. Somebody who left the board themselves stays off until they rejoin, and somebody who keeps their picks private is on it with nothing of theirs shown.
A channel says it already gets posts
Each channel takes one feed, so its board is never doubled. Everybody in the server who marks a game is on every channel's board here anyway; pick another channel only if you want a board of your own.
A button says to link my Discord
Link it in Account → Linked accounts, then press it again.
Can I use it in more than one server?
Yes. Each server shows its own people: everybody there who marked the game, and its channel owners' friends; nothing from one server appears in another. A watch party's event lives in one server: its voice channel's, or else the first channel that shows it.
Two of us added a channel in the same server
Both channels show the same people, and both of your friends count. Only the first channel added @mentions them, so nobody is pinged twice.
What does the server see about me?
Your username (an @mention, once your Discord is linked) next to the games you mark, unless you switch this server off under Your servers. Private marks stay private. Everything else is in the privacy notice.
How do I remove it?
To stop posts in one channel, remove it in Feeds. To take the bot out of a server altogether: Server Settings → Integrations → CFB Game Notifier → Remove.
Does it cost anything?
No.
